Weekly LYBD Update 9/15/26
September 15th
And we're back!
Hello, parents. I hope your swimmers enjoyed their first practice yesterday. The coaches certainly did!
I would like to get into the habit of posting an update here every Tuesday.
Until meets begin, these emails will mostly contain reminders, updates, and little bits of info.
Here's a synopsis of the things we went over before jumping in the pool last night.
- The coaching staff this year will include Jason, Maddie, Nick and both coach Liz's. Coach Jeff is spending time in Virginia and taking care of family and may not be at practice for the first couple of weeks.
- Swimmers and their families need to SCAN IN at the front desk before practice. Per YMCA policy, everybody in the facility should be signed in and accounted for. Even non-members should be letting front desk staff know they're in the building.
- All swimmers should use the locker rooms to enter into the pool area. Families are welcome to use the door at the end of the hallway past the front desk.
- If anyone is leaving their belongings in the locker rooms, please use a lock. We obviously have trustworthy swimmers on the team, but we can't account for the many other members and guests utilizing those locker rooms. We encourage everyone to use the bleachers in the pool area whenever necessary.
- RESPECT for teammates and coaches was emphasized last night. We represent the Louisville Blue Dolphins before, during and after practice. So, being respectful in any YMCA, in the locker rooms, in the hallways and in the pool area is very important.
- Respect also goes along with cleaning up the deck after practice is over. Coach Jason has ordered some new storage, so where our kickboards, fins and pull buoys are currently located may change, but I'll update everyone when that happens.
- There will be NO dry land training this week so Wednesday practice will begin at 4:30 in the pool area and end at 6pm for the advanced swimmers (regular time for intermediate swimmers). Once dry land begins, practice for the advanced swimmers will then go until 6:30pm. Please let coaching staff know if you have any questions on this. We encourage the whole team to participate in dry land when it begins (possibly in week 3) as strength training and conditioning outside the water will help swimmers get stronger, but this is not mandatory for everyone.
- Finally, the coaching staff is very excited for season to be underway and we're so happy to see NEW swimmers and lots of familiar faces.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. I can be reached at this email address and you are always welcome to email Jason as well.
